The sound of her retching hit me like a knife to the gut. Sumati clutched the basin, her frame trembling as wave after wave of nausea wracked her body. I knelt beside her, gently rubbing on her back.

"Shhh… It's okay," I murmured, though my voice came out lower than I used to. I wasn't used to softness. Not with anyone, but Sumati is an exception.

When it was over, she slumped back weakly, and I caught her. I grabbed the glass of water from the table and brought it to her lips. She drank in small, shaky sips.

"Do you want to go to the doctor?" I asked quietly, brushing a strand of damp hair from her face. She didn’t speak, just denied with a nod, and looked at me with tired eyes.

I scooped her into my arms without asking. She didn’t protest, just rested her head against my chest. I took her to our room, laying her down carefully on the bed. Her hand instinctively reached for mine.

She looks in my eyes, like she didn't want me to go from here. A year ago, when she stepped into my life as my arrange wife, we made a deal. We had decided on it. After six months, we’d part ways.

But here we were.

I never thought that the girl who walked into my life a year ago, quiet, guarded, and unwilling, would become the very core of my existence.

She was everything I never thought I needed. Our constant fights, our petty teasing, the way she lit up the room when she was angry with me.

She’s not just sweet or innocent. She’s strong, fierce, and stubborn as hell. There’s fire in her, the kind that doesn’t just burn, it builds. She fights for herself, stands tall even when the world tries to pull her down. She’s got dreams… big ones. And she refuses to take shortcuts, even when I’m standing right there, begging her to let me help.

I remember when she said she was going to work at Vrishabh’s mansion. We had argued. She refused, even when I told her she didn’t need to do this. She could just focus on her studies and her life. But no, Sumati being Sumati, looked me straight in the eye and said she wasn’t going to take my money for her college fees.

I pulled out my hand slowly from her, As I got up, walked to the door, and came back with the file.I sat down beside her.

She looks lost in her thoughts. She flinched slightly when I placed the file in her lap.

“What’s this?” she asked quietly.

“papers,” I said, my voice thick.

She blinked. “Papers of what?”

“Of everything I’ve been trying to tell you,” I whispered. “Open it.”

She hesitated, then slowly flipped the file open. Her eyes scanned the documents title deeds, legal contracts.

She looked at me, confused, eyes wide. “Abhishek…”

I didn’t let her finish.

“This is the house,” I said. “The land. My savings. My company shares. Everything I own, Sumati. Every damn thing. It’s all in your name and our child’s name.”

Her lips parted  “You said you’re scared I’ll walk away one day. That I’ll become like the man who abandoned your mother. That I’ll ruin our child’s life like your parents ruined yours.”

I leaned closer, cupping her face as gently as I could.

"I want your trust. And if it takes signing away every piece of paper to prove that then I’ll do it again. A hundred times.”

Her tears finally fell. “I love you, Sumati,” I said, voice shaking. “Not just as my wife. Not just as the mother of my child. But as you. And I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel alone in this.”

“Sumati…” I whispered.

I cupped her cheeks gently, making her face me. “Please don’t do this.” I am trying to control my tears, but it's getting hard as my eyes get moisture. tears roll down from my eyes.

Her eyes welled up in too. And I knew she was scared.…..of becoming what she had once lived through.

“I know what you’re thinking,” I said, my voice cracking. “You think this child will suffer the way you did. That one day, we’ll end up hating each other. That you’ll be left alone to pick up the pieces again.”

Tears slipped down her cheeks silently.

“But I’m not your father, Sumati. And you’re not your mother. This is us, it’s not them.”

I swallowed hard, my throat aching. “You think I’ll leave? That I’ll change?” I leaned forward, forehead against hers. “I’ve already changed. You did that. You came into my life and turned it upside down. I’m not letting you go. I’m not letting this go.”

My hand rested over her stomach. Her eyes followed.

“I want this baby,” I said, voice firm, heart shaking. “Not because it’s mine, but because it’s ours. And I want you to want it too… not out of pressure, not out of guilt… but out of us.”

"Please" I break down as more tears made thire way.

Her lips parted, but no words came. Just a soft breath.

I looked into her eyes, desperate, wrecked, but holding on.

“You don’t have to go through this alone, Sumati. I’ll be there. Every second. Every step. And I’ll prove it to you even if it takes my whole damn life.”

She looked at me like she was trying to believe it… and She cried harder.

And I let her. Held her close. Because for once, her tears weren’t falling alone.

It hurts that she doesn’t trust me fully. I know her past haunts her. She's seen what a broken marriage can do. She’s seen love turn to ash. And she’s scared. Scared to bring a child into a world where love is uncertain.

But I will do anything to gain her trust to make her believe in me. And give her every happiness she didn't get.
