Avani didn’t see the person in front of her until she bumped right into him. She stepped back, holding her bag tightly to keep her balance.

“I’m so sorry,” she said.

The man in front of her was tall and dressed nicely. His face had sharp features, and he gave her a friendly and charming smile as he looked down at her. His warm expression surprised her.

“It’s fine,” he said in a calm, soft voice. “Are you new here? I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.”

“…yes,” she replied quietly, her voice almost a whisper.

His smile grew a little, and there was a playful look in his eyes. “Ah, that makes sense. I’m usually good at remembering faces, and yours… well, I’d remember.”

Her face turned red at his words, not sure if he was being kind or teasing her. “I don’t work here,” she explained. “It’s just for a short time.”

“I see,” he said, still smiling.

She gave a small nod, looking away. His interest in her felt a bit too strong.

“I need to go,” she said.

"Oh," he said, stepping back with a nod. "By the way, what’s your name, miss?"

"Avani," she replied.

"Avani," he repeated, his smile growing warmer. "It was nice meeting you. Take care."

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Avani standing there. She let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.

Who was he? she wondered as she turned back toward the mansion. There was something about him that felt too polished, too perfect.

Avani walked towards  the headmaid and said, "My mom can’t come today, so I’ll be working in her place."

The head maid nodded. "Don’t worry. I’ll give you something simple to do. It’s easy work watering the plants and cleaning the garden. You should be done quickly."

"And one more thing," she added firmly, "don’t harm any plants or pick any flowers."

As the headmaid spoke, she glanced at a young woman standing nearby.

"Sumati, come here."

The head maid continued, "This is Sumati. She’ll help you. The garden is quite large.”

Sumati looked up with a big, happy smile. She was a young woman, probably around 21 years old, with a kind and friendly vibe. Her eyes had a gentle, innocent look.

"Hi, I'm Sumati," she said in a soft, sweet voice. Avani remembered her as the girl who had helped her find the back door the day before.

Avani smiled back, feeling a little more comfortable. "It's nice to meet you, Sumati."

"My name is Avani," she added.

As they walked toward the back door, Sumati kept talking, her voice cheerful and lively. "I've been working here for a while now. The garden is my favorite place. It's so calm, and I get to spend my day with plants." She stopped for a moment, noticing Avani was quiet. "But I know starting somewhere new can be hard. It’s always tough at first."

Avani gave a small smile, grateful that Sumati was trying to keep the conversation going.

Sumati laughed and said, "You know, I talk a lot, don’t I? It’s just how I am, but I promise I’m not trying to overwhelm you!”

Avani couldn’t stop smiling at Sumati’s honesty. She was sweet and had a truly kind heart.

For a moment, Avani felt a wave of calmness. Sumati’s presence made her feel less alone in this strange place.

When Avani and Sumati walked into the garden, Avani was amazed. She had never seen anything like it. The garden was so big it seemed to connect the whole village. It felt like stepping into a dream—lush and full of life. The air was filled with the smell of flowers, and the place felt so peaceful.

Yesterday, when Avani was there, she hadn’t even noticed the garden. She had been too overwhelmed.

Every part of the garden was bursting with color and fragrance. There were rows and rows of roses—light pink, deep red, white, and yellow. The roses were stunning, with soft, delicate petals.

As Avani looked around, she felt calm again. The beauty of the garden surrounded her. For the first time in a long while, she felt at peace.

Sumati Started her work, humming softly. Avani, still in awe of the garden, started cleaning the area around the back door.

The garden was calm and beautiful, with rows of bright flowers, tall trees, and the gentle smell of roses filling the air.

Avani worked quietly in the garden, listening to Sumati talk. Her hands moved carefully over the plants, watering each one, but her thoughts were stuck on what Sumati was saying.

"The staff is nervous because the boss is back," Sumati said in a quiet voice. "I've never met him, but people say he's dangerous. They talk about how he looks at you like he can see right through you."

Avani's hand stopped for a moment, and water spilled onto the ground. She remembered a man with sharp grey eyes, and the thought sent a shiver through her.

"I’d say stay away from him," Sumati added, leaning closer as if sharing a secret. "And don’t go near the west wing. That’s his private area. He doesn’t like anyone going there. He’s getting married in a week, and after that, maybe he’ll leave. Until then, everyone is on edge."

Sumati went on, "And his fiancée? She’s the worst kind of person you could meet."

Yesterday, a girl accidentally spilled water close to her. She yelled at the girl in front of everyone, called her useless, and even hit her. Avani was left in shock.

"The head maid had to step in to calm the situation. Please, try to stay away from her and the boss. Nothing good happens when you get involved with them," Sumati warned.

Avani felt a wave of fear as she listened to Sumati's advice. The mansion, despite its beauty, now felt like a dangerous place.

Sumati moved on to tend to another row of plants.

As Avani bent down to water another plant, she felt a sudden chill. The atmosphere around her became tense. She slowly turned her head, looking around the garden.

For a brief moment, she saw a shadow move behind a tree, but it vanished quickly.

Avani's heart raced as she felt like someone or something was watching her.
