She tilted her head and listened carefully. It seemed to be coming from a car parked a little away.
As Avani approached the car, she scanned the area but still couldn't see anything. She crouched and peered under the car, her breath catching in her throat.
There, curled up in the shadow of the vehicle, was a small dog maybe two or three months older. Its body was covered in dirt, and it had clear signs of injury, a limp in its leg, and eyes filled with fear.
The poor dog flinched when their gazes met, trying to crawl further away from her as though terrified of human touch.
"Are you okay?" She said softly.
She crouched lower, carefully reaching out a hand. "It's okay... I won't hurt you," she said gently. But the dog whimpered and scrambled further back.
Realizing that she needed to gain its trust, Avani set her bag down and rummaged through it. She found a small packet of biscuits. Slowly, she placed a piece on the ground, backing away to give the dog space.
The dog's nose twitched as it caught the scent of the food. Hesitant and wary, it inched closer, its movements slow and shaky. It stopped every few steps, eyeing her nervously, before finally reaching the biscuit. With a trembling paw, it grabbed the food and began eating, its eyes still watching her every move.
Avani smiled softly, her heart warming at the sight. She stayed still, letting the dog take its time. Gradually, the dog began to relax.
Avani gently reached out again. This time, the dog didn't flinch as much. She softly stroked its fur, careful not to touch its injuries.
"It's okay... you're safe now," she murmured, her voice soothing.
Slowly, it lowered itself beside her, allowing her to comfort it.
As Avani walked toward the car, Abhishek stood waiting by the door. The moment his eyes landed on the injured dog in her arms, his expression shifted, but he said nothing. Without a word, he opened the door for her, stepping aside to let her in.
She settled into the car, carefully cradling the dog, who whimpered softly. As the car started moving, the dog nestled closer to her, his small, fragile body trembling. Avani gently ran her fingers through his fur, murmuring soothing words as he began to calm down.
Her thoughts, however, drifted to Vrishabh. Lately, his attention toward her has been overwhelming. The way he spoke to her, the possessiveness in his tone. What if, after six months, he refuses to let her go?
She shook her head, trying to dispel the growing fear at her.
The car came to a halt in front of the mansion. Abhishek opened the door again, silently watching as she stepped out with the dog still cradled in her arms.
Once inside, she placed the dog gently on the bed and began treating his wounds with care.ย The dog flinched at first but soon relaxed under her gentle touch.
She looked down at him with a soft smile. "Are you hungry?"
The dog let out a faint sound, almost like he was trying to respond. Avani chuckled at his attempt and nodded.
"I'll be back in a minute with some food,"
After some time, she returned, holding a bowl of food with Sumati, who had come to see what was going on.
The dog, who had been sitting quietly, perked up at the sight of Avani. His tail wagged hesitantly as he got up and moved toward her, his small frame trembling slightly. Avani bent down, scooping him up into her arms. He snuggled closer to her, seeking comfort in her warmth.
"He's adorable," Sumati said, a hint of amusement in her voice.
Avani smiled at her friend and set the dog down gently on the floor before placing the food bowl in front of him. The dog sniffed the food cautiously before beginning to eat. His movements were still tentative, as though he wasn't used to being fed so kindly.
Sumati crouched down, extending a hand to pet him. But the dog flinched and pressed closer to Avani, a soft whimper escaping his lips.
"He's afraid of being touched," Sumati said, concern evident in her voice.
"What could've happened to him?"
Avani sighed, her expression heavy with sadness. "I found him under a car in the parking lot. He was injured and terrified. It's like... he's been through something horrible. Maybe someone hurt him," she explained, her voice soft but laced with anger at the thought.
"Are you going to keep him?" she asked gently.
"I don't know," she admitted. "I want to take care of him, but... I don't think I can keep him here..."
Sumati nodded in understanding but didn't press further.
She reached out again, trying to get closer to the dog. But just like before, he shrank away, refusing to let anyone but Avani near him.
"He trusts you," Sumati observed, a small smile playing on her lips.
Avani nodded, stroking the dog's head softly. "Maybe he just needs time," she said.

As Avani stepped out of the bathroom, her damp hair clung to her shoulders. She held a towel in one hand, drying her hair softly. Just then, the door of the room opened, and she froze.
Vrishabh stood there, his intense gaze locking on her. Her grip on the towel tightened as he walked toward her, his steps firm and purposeful.
Without a word, he grabbed her waist, pulled her close, and pressed his lips against hers in a hungry kiss. Avani gasped as her back hit the Wall.
His lips moved with a ferocity that left her trembling, his hands possessively roaming her sides.
Suddenly, a loud crash broke the moment. He breaks the kissย he turned to see the little dog running toward them, barking loudly.
With his tiny teeth, the dog latched onto Vrishabh's pant leg, tugging and growling as if trying to pull him away from Avani.
Her heart sank at the sight.
